Retrospective EvAlUaTiOn

So there's talk online about why Democrats lost Virginia and New Jersey. Some suggest that Obama played a role in these defeats due to his lack of progress on the Economic front.
I'm wondering if it's too early to call, and if so can we really blame Obama or was there a spurious C?

Maybe I'm just framing this question cuz this is how the Media frames it.
Maybe...

  1. I was so going to write a blog about this last night!

Jonathan or Milkman LOL! I have heard the same thing except only from a bunch of right wingers who were defeated last night in the NY-23 a district the Dem's hadn't carried in over a hundred years. I would make this point President Obama was not on the ballot last night or his policies. In almost every exit poll except probably FOX News (go figure) the majority of voters said that their vote was not a vote against our President. In my opinion I think creigh Deeds was a horrible candidate and not a very good campaigner. I think lost should serve as a message to the blue dog conservadems in Congress. The message should be that no matter how conservative you are and try to seperate yourself from President Obama it will not protect you electorally. Deeds basically said he wasn't for HC Reform and he would opt of the public option and the Presidents policies were hurting him as a candidate. He ran to the right and got hammered. When you seperate yourself from the President I wonder why the supporters of Pres. Obama does not vote for you. I think one candidate was a better politican in that race. The electorate that showed up vote for Creigh Deeds and McDonnel Obama couldn't have been president if that is the electorate that would have showed up last Nov. I think Gov. Corizine lost because he worked at Goldman Sachs and it is not a good time to be a former Wall Street Big Wig. I think the people of NJ associated him with the those guys who are walking away with around between 200 million-400 million from failed companies on WS. President Obama has an approval rating of about 57% in NJ so if he was on the ballot he would win. I think they should have ran Mayor Corey Booker google him he is the next Gov. of NJ when he wants to be. I think he likes Jon Corzine and did not want to force him out. Republicans won those races with 2 moderate candidates a far cry from those extremist in the House and Senate. The lesson and question is that conservadems are in trouble no matter how they vote on HC or Energy so do the right thing for the people. The only hope they have is to show people that these things work and GW Bush is not mentioned enough for me. Reagan ran against Carter for 8 years no they used him up until 2008 and this last guy was a disaster and they quit after a year in office?

  2. I know most people said that president Obama did not have a factor in their votes in both New Jersey in Virginia, but many of those people in both states admitted to being very worried about the direction of the nations economy for the future. In New Jersey 89% and in Virginia 85%. I know personally, if I lived in those states, the thought would most likely cross my mind to compare the political party of the president to the offices I was voting for. I think in local elections, people do look at sucess in Washington when going to vote.

  3. Jerel, what about Bloomer in NYC? Of course, he spent somethin to the tune of 100million (says that with a Dr. Evil accent). Also how in the world do you know all these lil tidbits of politics in the Northeast?

Chaylon, I think you're right about the retrospective evaluations goin on in NJ. Plus, was'nt Corzine a unsavory politician, and his last few months were marked by scandals, E.G. rabbis jacking kidneys and statewide corruption?

    Also, GEAUX SAINTS!!! SUPERBOWL!!!!

  4. I think you have a point chaylon and the question I would have are people worried about the direction of the economy policy wise or people worried about the fact that things are still bad? In actual reality no Governor really has that much control over the economy at the moment, so the success of those 2 guys who were elected Tuesday night are dependent on President Obama's Policies. People are upset and unsure where to channel the anger.

  5. Bloomburg chooses to avoid a party label and spend tons of dough and only barely win. The guy is a social moderate and a moderate conservative economically. I think as I made the point in an earlier post this is an anti-electorate right now. People are pissed that people making about 100 million or more a year or gettting helped out by people who don't make anywhere near that. I think his approval ratings wasn't as bad as Jon Corzine who really wasn't as bad as his 30% approval rating. People are made if you come across and elite, technocratic, and wealthy is not a good sign in 2009 or 2010. The more the gap grows between the rich and poor the more resentment builds up. People are starting to realize that all those rich aren't there because they are smarter or worked harder but alot has to do with luck and class. You should read divided America and the New York Times to brush up on your Northeastern politics lol! Nate Silver and Chris Silizza amazing also!

  6. dam NYTimes...

I have to read it because of the lack of options around here. I miss the Times-Picayune. At least it had a sizeable international section. Has anyone noticed that the Advocate never has any world news besides the conflicts in the Middle East?

Yea the 30% approval rating was def his partisan backers.

Also, I think it's goin to be a while before any grassroot uprisings start happening. They still have to be recruited!

Oh, and the dang Tax Amnesty program netted like 300 million dollars recently. What are they goin to do with like 100 mil (actually i think it's 84)? Put it in the rainy day fund????

    Is it not raining?
Are we not literally drowning here?
    WTF GOV?????

So who doesnt pay taxes? 270 mil of the 300 came from businesses!!!!!! WTF again! It's not individuals who havent been payin, its the darn businesses. I could'nt believe this when I read it. Why arent these businesses being regulated! and what is the governor goin to do with the rest of the money?? Spend it on healthcare! HEALTHCARE! What about my education!!!!
