MiLkMaN comin @cha straight outta Middleton!
I found this on nola.com's website.
What's up with all the Tea Party gatherings?
Oh, this event actually costs money because of the speaker, Star Jones...j/k
she's on the View...I mean Star Parker.
According to the website, she's a social activist, etc. However, like
the Verba, Brady, and Schlozmann article points out, Parker's stances on certain issues
do not represent the whole of those surveyed (she's African American).
Her books include "Pimps, Whores, and Welfare Brats," "Uncle Sam's Plantation" and , "White Ghetto." lol...wait, that's not funny...

Oh, the website also says there's a rally at the capitol for 11am on the 9th of November,
so if anyone wants to protest with me, then LET'S DO IT

Nice find and nice connection from the VBS chapeter in the book. I disagreed with the book in class and disagree with it after reading that article/event description. The book said the majority of activist supported a position such as the one "Star Parker" has. The day Ben Jealous, Hill Harper, Julian Bond, John Lewis, Cornel West, Skip Gates, and even Collin Powell a Republican start advocating the position of Star Parker I will believe the VBS chapter. I would like to know if she wrote that profile about herself? I find that profile offensive on so many levels. The fact that something that is "grassroots" and it cost money makes it a little less authentic to me. I know that they did not charged people to get into the March on Washington or the March for equality 2 weeks ago (I believe). It is beyond me that people would take to the streets and march on Washington for Fiscal Responsibility? I thought people marched for human rights and equality for all people no matter who are what they are. I think the problem is the tea party people are all over the board. Marches, protest, and people organizing need organization. I look at those protest and I see a bunch of people who think the country has been heading down the tube since the FED came in existence. It is their right to feel that way, but I fundamentally disagree with them.
ReplyDeleteOn a completely unrelated note, does anyone in Ondercin's class right before ours want to study before that exam in the classroom at around noon? I'll be there. -jennie
ReplyDeleteHey, here's an opportunity for everyone: At Bill Cassidy's office today until 5 we're stuffing envelopes for service academy nominations. If anyone can come by and help out, it would be a political participation opportunity and I also know that they're probably looking for interns next semester. If you are interested call or text me (jennie) and I'll give you directions. 6154776431
