Getting the News

If you're like me, you don't like listening to highly inflammatory pundits. Although they do have good points, I don't like listening to yelling, and I feel like they perpetuate the culture of fear, that populates much of the media.

That being said, I'd like to offer up NPR (National Public Radio) as an alternative source for news. Reading can be time consuming, but NPR is radio broadcast that you can listen to in the car, or stream live from the web. It's relatively non-partisan...

Just thought I'd make this suggestion as staying abreast of the news is so important to poli sci major!

here's a link to stream NPR on the web.

enjoy!

  1. Follow up:
Today for example on the The Diane Rehm Show, there was an educated and logical debate on abortion funding through proposed Public Health Care plan, and contraception.

There are panelists from the New York Post, and Catholic Charities.

  2. This is just a little aside to Emily's comment about the abortion funding. There is an abortion survivor speaking in Dodson Auditorium tonight at 7. My prior research shows that the speaker is a very strong-willed woman, and, as would be expected, an aggressive advocate in the pro-life arena. She, in particular, made a speech to Australian Parliament directly before the body voted on a bill to decriminalize abortion in the country.

Obviously, it doesn't seem like it's a coincedence that she is coming to speak to influential college campuses while there is active debate concerning abortion funding occurring.

I am just interested to see if she is as, not militant really, but as aggressive in her delivery tonight as she was in the clip I saw of her in Australia. I'm sure she is hoping to get at least a significant chunk of pro-choicers in there to try and persuade them to switch sides, although that is just speculation on my part.

I'm going to observe the effectiveness of her act of political participation at least as much as I can from taking into account audience reactions and her methods of persuasion, etc.

    Just a tangent.
